Gears come in many different shapes and sizes. They can be meshed together and used in various ways to create different styles of motion within mechanisms. There are all sorts of names for the many gears one might see within any given mechanism, but most can be divided into a couple different categories: Spur, Helical, Herringbone, Bevel, Rack and Pinion, Worm and Wheel, and Internal gears.
